The last time the Denver Broncos beat the Las Vegas Raiders, Drew Lock was the quarterback and the Raiders were still in Oakland. It’s been a long time and Bo Nix can hopefully become the next quarterback to snap an AFC West Divisional losing streak.
Denver Broncos rookie Bo Nix preparing for first AFC West matchup
Eight games in a row — that’s how long it’s been since the Denver Broncos have beaten the Las Vegas Raiders. Last year, Denver came close in their season opener, but a missed field goal and extra point were the difference maker. Sunday’s game features a lot of uncertainty surrounding a Raiders team that is dealing with not only a handful of injuries but the distraction of Davante Adams requesting a trade.
All signs point to him not playing in Sunday’s game, but the Raiders are still hopeful Maxx Crosby will play, which will be another challenge for rookie QB Bo Nix and a Broncos offense that is trying to establish and find their identity. For Nix, this will be his first game against an AFC West opponent, and a game where Broncos Country hopes the team can re-establish their previous dominance over one of their most heated rivals.
“I’ve been able to get a sense of it a little bit,” Nix said. “I don’t think you really truly understand I think until you play in your first one. I’m excited to play Sunday. I know it’s important for this organization. I know it has been for a long time. The players, we don’t take it lightly. So we’re going to go out there and compete at a high level, and I know they will too. It’s going to be a fun football game.”
Getting the run game going will help, but a forecasted sunny Sunday afternoon game at Empower Field during Throwback Day will help set the tone.
