Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix has quickly become a fan favorite in the eyes of Broncos Country. After his first NFL start on Sunday in the team’s 27-2 win against the Green Bay Packers, Nix reflected on the team’s performance and the atmosphere in his first home game.
Denver Broncos rookie Bo Nix reflects on first NFL start
Empower Field at Mile High had a lot of No. 10 jerseys in the stands as Nix took the field for his first NFL start.
He was efficient and decisive, and he did more than enough to cement his place as the quarterback who should be the starter in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.
While Sean Payton makes us wait for that announcement, that we expect to come hopefully this week, Nix hasn’t paid any mind to it and will allow the coaches to make their decision.
When asked about whether he did enough to win the starting job, he played it off.
“That’s not for me to decide,” Nix said.
He saw two drives in Sunday’s game and they each led to points. His first one was a nine-play, 39-yard drive that was set up by Denver’s defense, forcing a turnover on downs near midfield. Nix’s second drive was a thing of beauty, capping off a 13-play, 90-yard drive with a touchdown pass to Tim Patrick.
“[I’m] happy for him,” Nix said. “Obviously, he’s been through a lot. It’s not easy to overcome the things that he has, and then to get out there and be able to contribute like he did tonight was just really cool to see. He’s a gamer. He does a really good job when his number is called. It was good to see him in the end zone.”

Nix and the performance of the offense with him in the game helped get the crowd into the game early as Denver jumped ahead of the Packers, and they maintained that energy throughout the game.
“Yes, I thought the atmosphere was awesome,” Nix said. “Obviously my first game here, and even though it was a preseason game, I thought it was really fun. It was a great atmosphere. It kept the fans engaged, kept us on the sideline engaged. These games are kind of strange because you know you’re playing a certain amount of time, and then you do know you’re coming out. When that happens, you just want to stay engaged with the guys and have a good time because that’s really what you do it for. You go out there and celebrate with everybody. We’re all just kids at heart having fun playing football.”
Now, the Broncos focus shifts to one final week of practice in preparation for Sunday’s preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals, which then sets the table for next week’s looming roster cuts. Hopefully, by then, Nix will be announced as the team’s starter for Week 1.
