The Denver Broncos have made several roster moves after rookie minicamp that has them set at 90 players on their active roster going into OTAs next week.
Denver Broncos re-sign WR Phillip Dorsett, undrafted CB Quinton Newsome
Veteran wide receiver Phillip Dorsett was waived last week by the Broncos in order to make room for their 90-man roster but has now found himself back into the mix.
Late last week, the Broncos kicked off their rookie minicamp and had the chance to evaluate their rookie draft class and various undrafted prospects.
Two of those undrafted prospects were WR Lincoln Victor and punter Nik Constantinou. Both players were released by the team on Monday to make room for Dorsett’s return and for undrafted rookie free agent CB Quinton Newsome to be added to the roster.
This procedural move brings the Broncos roster to 90 players overall as the team prepares to continue OTAs next week, beginning on May 21st.
Dorsett rejoins a loaded receiver room that features Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, Marvin Mims, Josh Reynolds, Brandon Johnson, Jalen Virgil, Michael Bandy, David Sills, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, and rookies Troy Franklin and Devaughn Vele.
Last season, Dorsett appeared in two games for Denver and started one of them but didn’t haul in a single pass on three targets. He filled in for an injured Mims last season in his defined role on offense and will likely compete with Jalen Virgil and Brandon Johnson primarily in training camp for a potential roster or practice squad spot.
Newsome joins the Denver Broncos as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Nebraska, where he played in 11 games for the Cornhuskers, tallying 37 tackles, one interception, and three passes defended.
It’s possible that Denver will continue to make various roster moves over the course of the next month or two as they look to shape up the roster as best as they can for the start of training camp at the end of July.
