It’s good to be a college football fan in Colorado. For the first time in a long time, this state can say that all three of the Buffs (7-2), Falcons (6-3) and Rams (5-4) are above .500 and trending upwards.
That’s no fluke.
For one, all three programs have a more-than-qualified man coaching their team, and that has allowed them to recruit and develop some of the best players we’ve seen in this state in awhile. So when the NFL Draft rolls around next April, don’t be surprised to hear a whole bunch of familiar names up at that podium.
Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, one of the most-respect draft analyst around, released his midseason rankings yesterday, and the Buffs (4), Rams (1) and Falcons (1) all made appearances:
Colorado Buffaloes:
- Josh Tupou (29th defensive lineman)
- Chidobe Awuzie (11th cornerback / “Biggest Riser”)
- Ahkello Witherspoon (32nd cornerback)
- Tedric Thompson (29th safety)
Colorado State Rams:
- Kevin Davis (18th linebacker)
Air Force Falcons:
- Weston Steelhammer (24th safety)
If all three teams can keep up their hot play, though, a few more players could slide into draft-day consideration, especially if they can earn themselves a quality bowl trip.
Even still, there are plenty of more Buffs, Rams and Falcons likely to join the ranks of NFL players as undrafted free agents. As we’ve seen before, that doesn’t mean they’re going to be any less successful.
On Thursday, Miller joined Mile High Sports Radio’s Nate Lundy and Shawn Drotar to break down these players, as well as the interesting Heisman race. Check out the full interview in the podcast below …
