This has been a much-needed positive week for the Colorado State Rams.

First, they defeated the San Jose State Spartans 42-30, coming back to win after leading 28-0 and allowing the home team to put 30 points on the board in the third quarter alone. It wasn’t a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a win the program needed dearly.

And after that win, both cornerback Rashad Ajayi and center Colby Meeks were placed on Pro Football Focus’ team of the week for their individual efforts.

From PFF’s writeup on Meeks:

“Meeks cruised to his Team of the Week selection with his 90.6 overall grade, 7.3 points clear of the second-best center on the weekend. He allowed one pressure on 34 pass-block snaps while his 89.3 run-block grade was also the nation’s best among centers.”

He wasn’t just the best center in the country this weekend, he was by-far the best.

Meeks had the difficult task this year to move over from his guard position into the center spot when Jake Bennett graduated and left the school. Center is arguably the most difficult position on the offensive line because they’re expected to be the leader, to get their group ready for every play, and then call out blocking assignments at the line of scrimmage.

It seems he’s grown into that role as the season has gone on, and his offensive line group looked to take a major step forward in the win over San Jose State, too.

Without a doubt, the offensive line has been the biggest weakness of CSU football in 2018, with a ton of turnover and lack of experience all-around. But, they may have just taken six games to gel and find consistency.
