The Colorado Avalanche finalized a trade bringing Nazem Kadri back to the team at the sound of the horn. The last-minute deal was a hefty one.
Kadri comes with a 2027 fourth-round draft pick from the Calgary Flames. Forward Victor Olofsson, the rights to unsigned draft pick Max Curran, a conditional 2028 first-round draft pick and a conditional 2027 second-round draft pick went the other direction.

UPDATED: MacFarland discussed the deal’s details and how it came together. He also addressed where Kadri fits in the lineup, off the ice and on the power‑play.
“Naz is not only a good hockey player, he’s a really good person that was in those battles. Has the scar tissue with our leadership group of players and coaches. There’s an intimate trust with the moment is not too big. He’s gone through it. He’s been a good player in this league for a very, very long time.
“Naz in the middle of the ice and his power play history, I certainly believe that he will get a good look to be a key component of our power play,” MacFarland said.
According to Sportsnet, the Avs and Flames were in negotiations on Thursday before the team acquired Nicolas Roy.
The 35-year-old forward is in his fourth year of a seven-year deal at $7 million per year. However, the Flames, as part of the deal, will retain 20 percent of his salary — leaving $5.6 million for the Avs to cover.
Originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs (7th overall in 2009), Kadri spent 10 seasons with the Leafs before being traded to the Avalanche on July 1, 2019.
In Kadri’s three seasons with the Avalanche, he earned 155 points (58g/97a) over 178 regular-season games. He had career-highs in assists (59), points (87) and points per game (1.23) in 71 games of his last season in burgundy and blue.
Kadri has 41 points (12g/29a) in 61 games this season with the Flames. He played his 1,000th career game on Nov. 5, 2025.
Olofsson signed for one year at $1.575 million and becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The 30-year-old forward earned 25 points (11g/14a) in 60 games.
Kadri will likely slide into the third-line center position with Ross Colton and Roy on the wings.
