Some wondered whether Derrick White, who spent his first three seasons playing for University of Colorado Colorado Springs, would be able to transition effectively from the Division II to the Division I game, but those questions are now over.
On Monday, he was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week.
In CU’s two games last week, White averaged 22 points on 55 percent shooting (50% from three), and played a pivotal role in the Buffs’ upset victory over No. 13 Xavier, hitting a clutch three and swatting away a potential game-tying shot.
White was a two-time All-American for the UCCS Mountain Lions and left as the program’s all-time scoring and assist leader. He sat out last season after transferring to Boulder, and has taken up the reins as leader of this Buffs team.
