As embattled Broncos head coach Vance Joseph finds his job at risk in his first season, former head coach Dan Reeves joined Gil Whiteley and Mark Jackson of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7 and suggested that a lack of discipline and accountability appears to be hindering the current team during their eight-game losing streak.
Reeves looks back at great coaches he had and worked with, and how learning from those masters helped him during his time as the head coach in Denver.
Discussing the “meticulous” nature of successful teams, Jackson and Reeves discuss Hall-of-Famer Raymond Berry, and his brief tenure as the Broncos’ quarterbacks coach in 1992; suggesting that today’s Broncos could use some of that meticulousness as they try to halt an eight-game losing streak.
Moving on to Tom Landry, longtime Dallas Cowboys coach and Reeves’ mentor, it’s easy to see how much the game has changed; players aren’t challenged in the same way by their coaches to be accountable in practices and team meetings. The Broncos released Lorenzo Doss after he had been late to too many meetings earlier this season. That was big news for the Broncos, but Reeves notes that, under Landry, something like that wouldn’t have happened — because players would never get that far in the first place.
