The NFL receiver with the longest active streak of 1,000-yard seasons added to another streak on Monday. Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has been named to the 2017 Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Monday; it is his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl recognition.
With the nomination, Thomas joins Ring of Fame safety Steve Atwater (7, 1990-96) and Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe (7, 1992-98) as the only Broncos with five straight Pro Bowl selections.
In 2016, Thomas produced his fifth consecutive 90-catch, 1,000-yard season – the NFL’s longest active 1,000-yard season streak. His five 1,000-yard seasons rank second in team history behind Ring of Fame wide receiver Rod Smith, who has eight.
The 29-year-old product of Georgia Tech has been Denver’s top receiver in both catches and yards over each of the last five seasons, although his 90 catches and 1,083 yards in 2016 were both lows over that period. He set career highs in 2014 with 111 catches and 1,619 yards.
Thomas replaces Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, who is unable to participate due to an injury.
