The Denver Broncos will report for the team’s offseason program beginning on May 4, just a week and a half away. After undergoing surgery in January following the fracture he sustained in Denver’s playoff win, he had a re-check recently ahead of the offseason program, which included a cleanup.

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix has standard and planned cleanup procedure in his ankle

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix recently met with his surgeon, Dr. Norman Waldrop, for a planned and standard re-check on his ankle, according to sources. First by Benjamin Allbright over the weekend.

It also entailed a planned ‘cleanup procedure’ which went well, as first reported by Ian Rapoport. Nix will be around the team facility, especially as the team begins its offseason program next week, where he’ll go through rehab and an upper-body program.

Cleanup procedures typically involve an arthroscopic and minimally invasive approach, which involves inserting a small camera through a small incision. It’s likely Waldrop went in and examined the surgical repair since Nix’s initial rehab after surgery. Surgeons typically remove scar tissue, loose bodies, or cartilage.

When Denver takes the field for OTAs in June, the expectation surrounding Bo is that the team will be smart with on-field work involving him, with the primary goal of him being fully ready for the start of training camp, which is the expectation.

Nix was initially scheduled to be a guest coach for the University of Oregon’s spring game, where he, his brother Tez Johnson, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Deommodore Lenoir were set to be the coaches today in the Fighting Ducks vs. Combat Ducks matchup.

Detroit Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell replaced Nix on Friday, but his absence was not related to the recent re-check of his ankle, from what I was told.

Nix has been in the building all offseason, rehabbing and training. When we caught up with Broncos Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning earlier this week at his Night of Champions event, he mentioned that he had seen Nix recently at the Masters and that Nix was moving well.

After the NFL Draft, Broncos head coach Sean Payton spoke on Nix after the re-check.

“He had a recheck that was scheduled,” Payton said. “He’s doing great. We’re excited about his progress. Nothing to report. These guys will be coming in here. He’s here. A number of these guys are coming in the building. Guys will be working on Monday [May 4] and then probably more of a team meeting next week. Then certainly you’ve seen the schedule. Probably in the prior two years, we would have been out on the field and you guys would have been out there with us in May. It’s kicked back a little, so that will take place in June.”
