Sean Payton is bringing back one of the Denver Broncos glue guys on offense and special teams. Michael Burton is returning on a one-year deal for 2025.
Denver Broncos re-sign veteran fullback Michael Burton
For the third offseason in a row, the Denver Broncos have re-signed veteran fullback Michael Burton to a one-year deal as a late free agency addition. As the team prepares for the NFL Draft, where they’re expected to add an arsenal of offensive talent, Burton returns to the fold for another year.
The move was first reported on Wednesday morning by Luca Evans of the Denver Post and confirmed by a source afterward.

He’s one of the glue guys on offense and on special teams. Burton’s value to Payton can’t be spoken for enough — everything he does revolves around him getting his hands dirty, and he embraces that role on both sides.
Whether that’s getting an occasional handoff on a third and short, catching a touchdown in the flat here or there, or setting up blocks on special teams, Burton quietly embraces his role, and he does it well.
He’ll return as the team’s lone fullback, although Nate Adkins could also be in the mix as the hybrid tight end/fullback option in training camp. Adkins could look to compete with Burton for that spot considering they added veteran ‘Joker’ Evan Engram, and Adam Trautman is already an established veteran as the number two option at tight end.
Burton’s one of the team’s best blockers inside, and whenever the ball makes it out to the perimeter and with Payton looking to revamp the Broncos’ rushing offense this season, the veteran fullback will look to remain in place as one of the glue guys for the run game operation.
