The Denver Broncos have taken the first step forward toward the possibility of building a brand new stadium, choosing their preferred site for it.

Denver Broncos tab Burnham Yard as preferred site for potential new stadium

After months of speculation on potential sites and zones surrounding a potential new stadium, the Denver Broncos have taken a huge step forward in making it a possibility.

Burnham Yard is the preferred site for a brand new stadium, and the Broncos’ ownership group announced that on Tuesday morning.

Under the ownership of the Walton-Penner Family Ownership group, the idea of a brand new stadium was something Greg Penner, Carrie Walton Penner, and their counsel have evaluated since they arrived. Beyond the on-field product of the Broncos, their current stadium, Empower Field at Mile High is a huge draw in the summer for concerts and events.

The new stadium will have a retractable roof. CEO Greg Penner noted that it would be preferred for football to be played in the elements on natural grass, but the idea for the stadium is to make it something bigger year-round for the city of Denver.

Not only for football games and concerts, but the idea of hosting large events like the NCAA tournament, the Super Bowl, and the NFL Draft is just one of the many advantages that a new stadium with a retractable roof brings to the table.

If the Broncos proceed forward with building a new stadium, it will be built on Burnham Yard and will be a privately funded world-class stadium development that the team believes will drive economic opportunities for generations to come.

One benefit to fans and citizens in Denver is that there won’t be any new taxes to fund it, which was one of the largest concerns fans and stakeholders had regarding the idea of a new stadium.

The targeted completion for this would be before the start of the 2031 NFL season, if everything goes according to plan and the team moves forward.
