The trench play for the Denver Broncos on offense and defense has to be significantly better in 2024 if the team hopes to win more than eight games. Honestly, the road to 10 wins starts and ends with the trenches and the Broncos have upgraded both sides of the ball this offseason.
Denver Broncos DE Zach Allen believes team’s O-line is off to a great start
When a lot of money is invested in the trenches, the results have to visible early and often. The Denver Broncos beefed up their defensive line this offseason with the additions of John Franklin-Myers, Angelo Blackson, and Malcolm Roach — who join D.J. Jones and Zach Allen as the mainstays of the position room. Offensively, the Broncos gave offensive guard Quinn Meinerz a well-deserved four-year contract extension and have continuity on the offensive line, at least for 2024.
Despite not having the pads on just yet, the Broncos’ defensive line and offensive line have been competing through the first few days of training camp, with both sides generating good looks and making plays.
“Yes, it obviously helps out a lot,” Allen said. “Last year going against them and this year, it makes the games easier so we’re really fortunate to have that. They’re looking great so far, so it’s going to be excited to see how the year goes for them.”
In terms of the new additions to the defensive line, Allen had plenty of praise for some of the new faces in the room, as Jamar Cain looks to elevate that units performance this upcoming season.
“It’s huge,” Allen said. “To have depth like that and guys who are playmakers helps a lot. It’s definitely much needed, and we’re happy to have them. Through the spring and it’s only been two days [of training camp], no pads, they’ve looked really good. I’m sure when the pads come on, they’ll look even better. It’s kind of an awkward time now when you have nothing on, so we’re looking forward to Monday.”
Monday is when the team throws on the pads for the first time, helping cement things becoming even more real that Broncos football is right around the corner.
