Denver Broncos Film Room: Bo Nix, Javonte Williams run game effective vs. Saints
The Denver Broncos put together one of their best rushing efforts of the season in last Thursday night’s win against the New Orleans Saints in Sean Payton’s homecoming. Considering the short week turnaround they faced, the Broncos’ offense put together one of their better-rushing performances of the season but also left a lot of missed opportunities on the field.
The main subject coming out of the win on Thursday Night has to do with rookie quarterback Bo Nix, who had a couple of plays where his footwork led to incomplete or dangerous passes. When looking back at the film, these issues are correctable and they are more of a mental issue that is carrying over into the physical.
Nix’s footwork in this game was sporadic at times, but there are also a handful of examples in this review that showcase him displaying good footwork. Where it becomes faulty has come when he’s been pressured or has a sense of pressure, whether that’s the case or whether it’s a false sense of pressure at times.
The good news is that Nix is still avoiding sacks and is making good decisions from an operations standpoint more than he’s making mistakes. Broncos fans want him to develop, and it’s clear as day that he is developing. Let it play out.
Having a complimentary run game is something that also helps open up the offense. Between Nix, Javonte Williams, and Jaleel McLaughlin, Denver ran for over 227 yards in Thursday’s win. This film review also showcases how the Broncos offensive line executed their blocking assignments to spring some holes up in the run game.
