Just one-day following roster cuts, the Denver Broncos were back on the practice field on Wednesday. Did the Broncos claim anybody on waivers, and who signed onto the team’s practice squad?
Denver Broncos continue roster construction.
After trimming their roster to 53 players on Tuesday, the Broncos began to fill out their practice squad and made several roster moves.
Denver Broncos fill their practice squad
- Defensive lineman PJ Mustipher
- The team views him very highly as a developmental nose tackle prospect.
- Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett
- Played for the Houston Texans last season. Averaged 12.9 yards per catch. 11 of his 20 catches moved the chains for a first down.
- Wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey
- His size and preseason performance stood out. He’ll be an immediate gameday elevation come Week 1.
- Defensive tackle Tyler Lancaster
- He was considered a close fit for the 53-man roster before cuts. Adds depth at nose tackle.
- Running back Tyler Badie
- He’s a very good practice squad player. Competed for RB3 job with Jaleel McLaughlin.
- Quarterback Ben DiNucci
- Had a solid preseason for Denver.
- Offensive guard Will Sherman
- The Broncos liked what he brought last year on the practice squad. They believe he is on an upward trajectory with his development.
- Cornerback Art Green
- Viewed internally as a developmental talent. He didn’t have much production in the preseason, but his measurables stand out.
- Offensive tackle Demontrey Jacobs
- He will add tackle depth to the roster as a developmental piece. He suffered an ankle/knee sprain in Saturday’s preseason finale vs. the Rams.
- Wide receiver David Sills V
- Appeared in nine total games for the New York Giants last season and caught 11 passes for 106 yards.
- Safety Devon Key
- Had an impressive preseason campaign. He takes great angles against the run and is solid in coverage.
- Defensive lineman Haggai Chisom Ndubuisi (roster exemption with International Pathway Player status)
- He was Denver’s NFL’s International Pathway Player. The team believes his measurables will be helpful for his potential development.
- Wide receiver Michael Bandy
- The team values his previous NFL experience. He has the potential to play on special teams for Denver.
- Running back Dwayne Washington
- Former experience with Sean Payton. Potential special teams impact player to watch for.
- Tight end Lucas Kroll
- Despite Saints ties, he has no former familiarity with Payton. 10 receptions for 136 yards in preseason.
Broncos news and notes
- Jerry Jeudy, P.J. Locke, Demontrey Jacobs, Chris Manhertz, Riley Moss, and Damarri Mathis were spotted on the side field today during practice.
- Former New Orleans Saints draft pick veteran NFL linebacker Rob Ninkovich was a guest at Broncos practice today.
- New kicker Will Lutz has a big leg and was effective in the kicking game on Wednesday during practice.
- Denver is expected to make several roster moves in the next 24 hours that could include putting Alex Palczewski, K’Waun Williams, and somebody else on short-term injured reserve, which would free up three roster spots on the 53-man roster.
- When those moves occur, Mike Purcell, Quinn Bailey, and Fabian Moreau are names to keep an eye on for those three roster spot signings.
- Broncos head coach Sean Payton said he and his staff will discuss what Javonte Williams’ potential workload will be vs. Las Vegas in Week 1
- “That’s something that will come as early as Monday,” Payton said. “We are pleased with where we are right now and how he has progressed. He’s gotten into games, and he is someone who picks things up quickly. We will have a balance. He’s one, but there will be a few players that we have to pay attention to that may not have had the volume compared to other guys. I know it’s a regular-season game, but you still have to have a minutes plan or a play plan, and we will have that with him.”
What’s next?
