The Denver Broncos have experienced nothing but continuity at left tackle since adding Garett Bolles to the roster. As a former first-round pick and player who earned a contract extension with the team, he’s looking for a third and potential final deal that will keep him in Denver for the remainder of his career.
Denver Broncos offensive tackle Garett Bolles wants to stay with the team
Garett Bolles wants to remain a Bronco for life and is currently the team’s longest-tenured player. If it were up to him, that would be the reality, but during Friday’s press conference after Day 3 of Broncos training camp, he firmly put the ball in their court.
“They know I want to be here,” Bolles said. “I’ve addressed that to them– they know that, but at the same time I can’t worry about that. I just have to do my job. Me and [head] Coach [Sean] Payton have a unique relationship. We’re super close, and we talk. He just tells me to focus on the things that I need to focus on. That’s just being a good father, being a good husband, being a good son, and then playing good football. If I can focus on those things just like I did in 2020, it worked out good for me.”
Payton has a lot of belief invested in Bolles, who is in the final year of his deal with no guaranteed money remaining. Despite that, Bolles showed up for the team’s voluntary offseason program even without a new deal, which hopefully lends itself as a sign of good faith going forward.
“He’s a tremendous athlete,” Payton said. “He’s extremely athletic. You don’t feel eight years. Sometimes you feel that when you work with a player, other times you don’t. I don’t feel that with him.”
Bolles is one of eight players on the roster who are in their 30s as Denver’s offseason approach has supported a youth movement going into 2024. Even though he’s hit the 30 mark, he still believes that he has plenty of years of football left in him.
“I think the thing that’s going for me for me is that I haven’t played football for that long,” Bolles said. “I didn’t play that much in college. My body’s fresh. I feel like I’m 25 to be honest with you. Maybe even 22, sometimes probably a little bit younger. I feel great. My body feels great, my mind feels great. I’m humbled to get better every year. I feel like that’s what I’ve been doing. I just have to take care of my body and eat right, sleep right, and do everything that I can. The training staff here and the stuff that we have here puts me in a great position to be who I am. I’m the strongest and fastest I’ve ever been. At 32 years old, that just speaks volumes for the people that we have here that put me on the right plan [with the] meal plan and workout program. I’m just beyond grateful. I love being a Bronco. I love this city. I love everything about this organization. We’re going in the right direction. I don’t think there’s anyone else in this building that wants to win here more than me just because I’ve been here the longest. I’ve seen the history that we have and the legends that we have in this organization. I feel like it’s my job to continue to build that and continue to create this team that we need to go forward.”
We’ll see if the Denver Broncos feel the same way either during or after this season as the team hopefully takes a step forward to winning and competing in 2024.
