The Denver Broncos are always looking at ways to expand or improve their roster on the 53-man side of things or even the practice squad. On Tuesday, the team held tryouts for several players at the wide receiver position, including hosting a former Broncos training camp standout, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.
Denver Broncos host various receivers for tryouts
Right now, the Denver Broncos 53-man roster has five wide receivers, with two on the practice squad. Broncos head coach Sean Payton and general manager George Paton have mentioned before that they’ll look at every option possible to upgrade the roster and the team’s depth, and it’s a little interesting that they hosted four wide receivers on the afternoon.
Denver hosted former training camp standout Kaden Davis, who was with the team during camp just two seasons ago. He was previously buried on the depth chart that Denver had in 2022 but has worked his way around to the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and, more recently, the Detroit Lions during training camp and the preseason.
The team also hosted Leon Johnson, Lance McCutcheon, and former New York Jets draft pick Denzel Mims. Mims was drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but hasn’t had the career he was projected to have coming out of Baylor. He has appeared in 30 games and has started 15 of them in his career, and if anything could be an intriguing option to add to the practice squad if the situation warrants it.
As it currently stands, the team’s depth on the 53-man roster is Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds, Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin, and Devaughn Vele. The practice squad has Michael Bandy and Lil’Jordan Humphrey on it. Humphrey was elevated this past week from the practice squad to the gameday roster and has since reverted back to it.
Payton will meet with the media on Wednesday, following practice, later in the afternoon.
