The Denver Broncos are getting one of their key defensive guys back this week as Dre Greenlaw returns from suspension. After he was suspended last week, the Broncos moved quarterback Sam Ehlinger from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
To make way for Greenlaw’s return to the active roster, the Broncos released Ehlinger today. Because Ehlinger is a vested veteran, he will sign back to the practice squad tomorrow in a move that was first reported by Chris Tomasson.
The veteran quarterback has valued his experience in Denver this season, inside Sean Payton’s system, with Davis Webb and the quarterback room, and wants to be part of it for the remainder of the season.
Greenlaw’s return will be a big boost for this Broncos defense that will be without Patrick Surtain II for a handful of weeks, and he’ll play in his second game this season on Sunday against the Houston Texans.
Denver did some more roster shuffling on Tuesday, per the league wire, releasing outside linebacker Garrett Nelson and wide receiver Samori Toure, which now leaves Denver with two practice squad spots open, with one of them going to Ehlinger on Wednesday as the team reports back to practice ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Houston Texans.
