The Denver Broncos coaching staff will have at least two new members in 2025 after a series of offseason moves. On Sunday, the Broncos lost one of their young assistant coaches to a promotion.

Denver Broncos lose TE coach Declan Doyle to Chicago Bears OC job

During his end-of-the-year press conference, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton acknowledged that it’s a good thing if your coaching staff gets interest from other organizations for promotions. Just two weeks after that, the Broncos are losing one of their assistant coaches to the Chicago Bears.

Tight ends coach Declan Doyle is heading to Chicago to be the offensive coordinator for Ben Johnson, who took the Bears’ job last week, as first reported by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. Doyle has been on the Broncos’ staff since 2023, when he came in when Payton was first hired. He was previously with Payton in New Orleans from 2019 to 2022 and had one year with Dennis Allen after Payton stepped away in 2021.

ICYMI: Broncos assistant GM Darren Mougey takes Jets’ GM job

Now, he’ll be the titled offensive coordinator for Johnson and the Bears, who look to revamp the franchise with soon-to-be second-year quarterback Caleb Williams. For the Broncos, Payton will now be looking to hire a tight-end coach and a special teams coordinator.

These are the only two coaching staff changes so far, with Doyle’s being a promotion and Ben Kotwica’s departure being a replacement. Darren Rizzi is still the name to watch for the Broncos, but their biggest obstacle will be the New Orleans Saints, who have had a handful of players come out and express their desire for Rizzi to be their head coach.

With Darren Mougey heading to the New York Jets in a GM role, there’s a possibility more Broncos assistant coaches get interviews for potential promotions in the coming weeks and more changes to Payton’s staff could be coming.
