The Denver Broncos have locked in their lockdown cornerback for the long-haul as the team and Patrick Surtain II agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension that’s worth $96M. Surtain’s deal now makes him the highest paid defensive back in NFL history.

Denver Broncos, PS2 agree to terms on massive extension

To be a lockdown cornerback in today’s NFL is a tall task and is hard to achieve, especially with all of the rules slated towards favoring opposing offenses. Surtain is the great equalizer in this scenario, emerging as one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks since being drafted by the team in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Surtain and the Broncos agreed to terms this morning on a four-year contract extension that’s worth $96 million, where he’ll average $24 million per year and will get $77.5 million guaranteed money. This contract has reset the landscape of the defensive back and cornerback market and it’s well deserved.

In Surtain’s three seasons in the NFL, he’s been named an AP All-Pro and a Pro Bowl player. He was nominated to the NFLPA’s All-Pro First team for two consecutive years, as voted on by opposing wide receivers.

In his first three seasons in the league, he’s had seven interceptions, 36 passes defended, and over 150 tackles.

His agent Tory Dandy of CAA negotiated the deal with the team and now Denver has their lockdown cornerback for the long-term. The deal comes off the heels of Surtain spending Tuesday giving back to the community, launching two STEAM rooms at two local high schools, George Washington High School and Manual High School.

“I see how much the Denver community means to the Broncos,” Surtain said. “Having inspiration from guys like Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson and those guys that have paved the way early on and learning from them, and to see how much the Denver community means [to them], it’s very inspiring.”

Surtain is now locked in long-term with plans to continue to lock down opposing wide receivers.
