Denver Broncos name inside linebacker Alex Singleton as their Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee

The Walter Payton Man of the Year award is one of the NFL’s most prestigious awards a player can win for their efforts and leadership not only on the field but off of it as well.

Over the course of the last handful of years, the Broncos have had several players earn the nomination, like Justin Simmons for his efforts in the community and, more recently, Garett Bolles for the work he does off the field giving back to youth in the juvenile justice system.

This year, the Broncos have nominated inside linebacker Alex Singleton as their Walter Payton Man of the Year, and he’s extremely deserving of it. Singleton is heavily involved with supporting and advocating for Special Olympics, something he’s just as passionate about as football. His older sister Ashley has been an athlete in the Special Olympics for 20+ years, and Singleton has used his platform as an NFL player to help amplify outreach for Special Olympics.

Singleton has raised money for the Special Olympics with his Tackling Inclusion initiative, where he donates $198.16 per tackle made. He finished the season with 31 tackles in three games, raising $6,142.96 in three games played.

On the field, the Broncos linebacker is the general of the defense, and anywhere the football is, he’s also there. Singleton was the leading tackler for the Broncos for the last two seasons and was on pace to be the leading tackler once again in 2024 before his season was cut short after tearing his ACL in Week 3.

Even though his season has ended, he’s still been rehabbing at the team’s facility and has been involved in games with the team on the sideline as he continues to make progress in his ACL journey. I’ve seen firsthand at Radio Row Singleton’s passion for supporting the Special Olympics and his sister.

He’s beyond deserving of this recognition from the Broncos and the NFL.
