The Denver Broncos could be getting help back on the offensive line as the team goes through its next four games. After suffering a biceps injury that required surgery after Week 5, left guard Ben Powers was back on the field on Wednesday.
Denver Broncos open 21-day window for LG Ben Powers
The Denver Broncos run game was averaging nearly 140.3 yards per game when left guard Ben Powers was in the lineup. Since suffering a biceps injury in Denver’s Week 5 win on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles, Powers had surgery and has gone through the rehab process and could be nearing a return to the field here shortly.
During Wednesday’s practice, Powers was on the field with a helmet and jersey and participated in team stretch and then worked by himself during individual drills.
With him taking the field, his 21-day window has officially opened, and the Broncos will have this timeframe to activate him from injured reserve to the active roster. If they do not move him to the active roster within 21 days, he’ll revert to IR and stay there for the remainder of the season.
In his absence, Alex Palczewski has done a terrific job filling in, and over the course of the last two weeks, Denver’s run game has gotten going, and Palczewski has done a great job, especially when pulling on plays and in pass protection.
The dilemma or question here is whether or not Powers’ extended absence will require him to play several games before he gets back into the rhythm after missing so much time, or if the team sticks with Palczewski down the stretch, including the playoffs.
Denver will release their official injury report here shortly, and we’ll get a better idea of what his participation status was.
