The Denver Broncos offensive tackle depth is being tested this season. Veteran starter Mike McGlinchey is currently on short-term injured reserve, while his backup Alex Palczewski could miss some time after suffering an injury in Sunday’s win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Denver Broncos OT Alex Palczewski dealing with high ankle sprain
Second-year undrafted rookie free agent Alex Palczewski has been a fun player to watch develop this season. He had his third career start in Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders and faced the tough task of going up against Maxx Crosby, who ended up having a sack on rookie quarterback Bo Nix.
Palczewski’s early body of work on tape has been impressive, but there is a chance he could miss some time after he left Sunday’s game with a high ankle sprain and did not return. NFL Network Insider Tom Peliserro reported the news on Sunday, stating that Palczewski’s X-rays were negative, but more testing would be done this morning. Typically, that means that he’ll likely have an MRI.
If Palczewski does, in fact, miss some time, veteran offensive tackle Matt Peart appears to be the in-house candidate who will likely get the start at right tackle, considering he filled in for him the moment ‘Palcho’ exited the game. Peart has been Denver’s jumbo package offensive lineman, often reporting as eligible, and if he has to start, it could force Denver to add outside personnel to the roster.
Recently, Denver had hosted several offensive tackles, including former Bronco Cam Fleming, for workouts a couple of weeks ago, and they could revisit that. Right now, the Broncos overall offensive tackle depth with Palczewski dealing with an injury is Garett Bolles, Peart, and undrafted rookie free agent Frank Crum.
McGlinchey will be eligible to return from IR after Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He’s been spotted since the injury on the team’s side field as he works his way back from an MCL sprain.
Regardless, Denver’s overall depth on the offensive line has been battle-tested this season.
