The Denver Broncos were on the field for the final day of OTAs before the team transitions into their mandatory minicamp next week.

Denver Broncos wrap up final OTA practice

Courtland Sutton and Devaughn Vele could emerge as the two main pillars of the Denver Broncos wide receiver room this upcoming season and it’s clear as day that they’ll be favorable targets for Bo Nix.

Sutton hauled in several passes from Nix during the team period on the afternoon, while Vele hauled in an impressive sideline catch on the day as well. Sutton has always been big and explosive, but Vele looks like he added some muscle mass in the offseason and still has an explosive element to his game that could see him take on a larger role at receiver this upcoming year.

Other players like Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims continue to get reps and impress as well, with head coach Sean Payton highlighting the progress Franklin has made this offseason. In the practices media hasn’t been to, Payton noted that Franklin is making explosive plays for them, and he is effective in the yards after the catch department.

RJ Harvey and Jaleel McLaughlin each caught impressive touchdown passes on the day from Nix.

Defensively, Talanoa Hufanga, Que Robinson, and Dondrea Tillman stood out the most. Hufanga hauled in an interception during team period, while Robinson and Tillman consistently pressured the quarterback on several back-to-back reps.

Granted, there aren’t any pads on right now, but their high motors and explosive traits off the edge look like they’ll be a problem for opposing offenses in training camp and the preseason.

Next week, the Broncos will be back on the field Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for mandatory minicamp where media will be in attendance for every practice.

Broncos news and notes from OTAs

Today’s practice wrapped up the voluntary portion of the team’s offseason program.

Some attendance news and notes. Garett Bolles, A.T. Perry, Calvin Throckmorton, John Franklin-Myers, and undrafted rookie Karene Reid were not spotted at practice.

Franklin-Myers will be present next week for the start of mandatory minicamp, and Bolles had an absence that head coach Sean Payton knew about beforehand. There was no word on why Throckmorton or Perry were not in attendance, with this being the second practice where the media have been able to attend, where Perry has not been present.

Safeties JL Skinner and Sam Franklin Jr. were spotted this week after not being there during the media’s practice viewing session from last week, and Patrick Surtain II was back this week after not being there last Thursday.

In terms of the injury front, the Broncos had safety P.J. Locke, long snapper Mitchell Fraboni, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, and running back Blake Watson working over on the team’s side field. Locke had an unknown offseason surgery but had his helmet and participated in team stretch, as did Greenlaw.

With Greenlaw being on the side field with trainers, that’s a positive sign as he continues to work his way back from the quad injury he suffered in workouts back in April, and he’s still on track to be fully ready for the start of training camp.

Lock in with us next week for three days of mandatory minicamp.
