The Denver Broncos have promoted fullback Adam Prentice to the 53-man roster, per the NFL’s transaction wire. What roster move created space for this, and who did Denver sign after hosting tryouts on Wednesday?

Denver Broncos promote fullback Adam Prentice to 53-man roster

The Denver Broncos initially signed veteran fullback Adam Prentice in training camp after Michael Burton went down with a hamstring injury. Prentice signed back to Denver’s practice squad after the team made its initial roster cuts, and he was previously elevated from the practice squad to the gameday roster.

Prentice was promoted to the active roster on Wednesday, and no corresponding move was needed to take place because he took Dre Greenlaw’s spot on the roster, which was open after the team placed the veteran linebacker on short-term injured reserve.

Prentice, in three games for the Broncos so far this season, has played 29 snaps (16%) on offense and 27 special teams snaps (30%) for Darren Rizzi.

With the return of Nate Adkins, who primarily lined up at tight end last week, it will be interesting to see if Payton utilizes more heavy personnel to try to get the run game going for the Broncos, especially if Evan Engram’s back injury causes him to miss more than just last week. Prentice appears to be the sole fullback here for Sean Payton for the time being.

Broncos sign DB after tryouts

With Prentice moving up to the active roster, the Broncos had an open spot on the team’s practice squad.

They hosted six players today on a tryout basis, before ultimately signing defensive back A.J. Woods.

Woods was an undrafted rookie in 2024 and has spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders.

Players who tried out for the Broncos

  • Defensive back Shemar Bartholomew – Georgia Southern.
  • Wide receiver Elijah Cooks – San Jose State.
  • Defensive back J.J. Devonshire – Pittsburgh.
  • Defensive back D.J. Miller – Kent State.
  • Defensive back A.J. Woods – Pittsburgh
  • Wide receiver Mike Woods – Oklahoma.

The Denver Broncos will return to the practice field for the first time on Thursday as they prepare for the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.
