It’s Dre day on Sunday as the Denver Broncos take on the New York Giants. Dre Greenlaw appears to be ready to make his Broncos debut.
After releasing veteran quarterback Sam Ehlinger on Friday, the Broncos had a spot open on the active roster and filled that spot today with Greenlaw.
Earlier this week, the Broncos opened up the 21-day window for Greenlaw, and he’s responded well in practice all week.
“Yes, positive,” Sean Payton said. “He was able to go and move around, so yes.”
We’ve seen him move well all week long and him being placed onto the active roster means he’ll likely make his debut on Sunday.
Greenlaw is a difference maker. Even in the few practices we saw from him this summer during training camp, he brings a different energy and juice to the defense, which should make an already great unit better.
The expectation is that the Broncos will play him on a pitch count as he looks to acclimate himself into game shape, but when he’s ready to fully go, it will be interesting to see how Vance Joseph and the Broncos approach their defensive personnel at linebacker, considering how well Justin Strnad has played.
“He’s a good athlete,” Joseph said. “I mean, he’s a tall, long athlete, man, with great speed and burst. I’ve been so proud of him, how he’s played the last couple weeks. And watching him from our first year until now — he’s a player man. He’s a real NFL starter. And he’s played that way for us, run and pass game. He has such great physical tools and traits that he wasn’t using before. Now he’s using them, and he has confidence in his game, so it shows.”
How Denver uses Strnad, Greenlaw, and Alex Singleton will be interesting to see as the season progresses.
