Winning is hard in the NFL, no matter how many national pundits try to move the needle regarding Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos. In his first two seasons, Nix has already climbed up the ladder of impressive accomplishments and that trend looks to continue if Denver beats the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix in elite company in first two seasons
Through his first two seasons, Bo Nix has 22 wins as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, tying Andrew Luck, Ben Roethlisberger, and Dak Prescott, and he has a chance with three games remaining this season to end up with the most wins by a QB in their first two years.
Former Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson won 24 games in his first two years with the Seattle Seahawks, and if Denver wins two out of their final three games, he’ll tie Wilson. If Denver wins out, he’ll own the top spot with 25 wins in his first two years.
“I think it’s an honor,” Nix said. “The great thing about wins is it’s a team award, so I think a win is the ultimate sign of how your team’s doing. I guess for me, I got a sign that we have a really good team that I’m on, and so I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the guys in the locker room. It sounds cliché, but seriously, I don’t play defense. I don’t play special teams. I don’t block, I don’t catch the ball. So guys around me have to do their job, and they’ve been able to do it for two years and we’ve made the most of it. We’ve gone on a good run this year, and we hope to finish it out strong and that’s what we’re pursuing, record or not. I think it just shows that the Broncos have had a lot of wins the last couple of years, and that’s all that matters.”
Nix has already accomplished a lot of impressive feats throughout his career, throwing for four touchdowns in a single game four times in two seasons. On top of that, he has nine career game-winning drives as a starter, including six this season. He doesn’t flinch in big moments, and his competitive nature is something you can see tangibly, especially when the Broncos’ backs have been against the wall.
During his rookie season, he threw the second-most passing touchdowns by a rookie all-time, passing Baker Mayfield and falling a few shy of Justin Herbert.
Sunday’s game against the Jaguars has high stakes associated with the matchup, where Denver can clinch the AFC West if they win and the Los Angeles Chargers lose against the Dallas Cowboys.
Not only did Nix lead the Broncos to the playoffs in his rookie season, but he’s also got them in a prime position at 12-2 with a chance to win the division and potentially clinch the #1 seed.
Denver can secure the top seed and homefield advantage if the Broncos win, the Chargers lose, the Buffalo Bills lose or tie, and the New England Patriots lose.
Regardless of the scenarios and what-ifs, the Broncos’ sole focus is on the Jaguars this week, and that was heavily indicated when talking to players in the locker room on Wednesday.
