The Denver Broncos are running it back at the running back position after they re-signed J.K. Dobbins on a two-year deal just two hours after it was reported that Denver was in on Travis Etienne before he signed with the New Orleans Saints.
Denver Broncos re-sign RB J.K. Dobbins to two-year deal
J.K. Dobbins is returning to the Denver Broncos, as reported by himself. He was an impact addition by Denver late in minicamp last offseason and he proved to be one of the most valuable running backs the team has had since 2015, and was the third leading rusher in the NFL before he suffered a lisfranc injury in Week 10 that ended his season.
Despite trying to return for the AFC Championship, the Broncos were not going to risk Dobbins in that scenario, even though Dobbins himself wanted to play.
His return is good for the Broncos, but there is still hope that Denver does add another back to complement him and RJ Harvey. His injury really derailed the Broncos’ rushing attack last season, which highlighted his value, but also spotlights the concern if he were to suffer another injury.
The running back position absorbs the most contact in the league, and the Broncos found out the hard way what life was like without him in the lineup. That’s why the Broncos need to invest in another insurance policy.
When healthy, Dobbins is an effective back, and his patient style of running meshed well with the Broncos’ offensive line, where he ran for 772 yards on 153 touches, four touchdowns, and an average of 5.0 yards per carry.
He’ll return and will be the likely starter in 2026 alongside Harvey, where both players complemented eachother well as a one-two punch.
Dobbins return comes two hours after it was widely reported that the Broncos were initially in on former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, who ended up signing with the New Orleans Saints.
