The Denver Broncos received some good news on the injury front with Brandon Jones’ return to practice on Thursday while everybody waits to find out what’s going on with rookie standout wide receiver Devaughn Vele.

Denver Broncos injury updates following Thursday’s practice

The Denver Broncos wrapped up Thursday’s second-to-last training camp practice ahead of Friday’s practice showdown with the Green Bay Packers.

When it comes to the injury front, the Broncos saw safety Brandon Jones return to practice with his pads and helmet on. Jones has been sidelined for the last two weeks after suffering a hamstring injury early on during training camp, which has allowed the team to get a deeper look at JL Skinner and Devon Key as potential rotational options.

Despite Jones’ return to practice, Key still saw the reps with Denver’s first-team defense while the team smartly brings Jones along. The ultimate goal for Sean Payton and his coaching staff is to get their starters to the regular season, and the veteran safety will slide back into that starting role when he’s fully healthy.

Standout rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele was present for the start of practice on Thursday but exited early on with trainers and did not return. It’s currently unclear what type of designation Vele is dealing with, but it will be worth monitoring whether or not we see him on Friday morning for joint practices, and if we don’t, we’ll have to wait until after practice to get word from head coach Sean Payton.

Second-year cornerback Art Green was out on the practice field wearing just a jersey and didn’t have his helmet as he continues to go through the NFL’s concussion protocol. He’s unlikely to play this Sunday against the Packers and will hopefully be on track to return next week.

With one training camp practice remaining, Denver has managed to stay relatively healthy from the onset. Stay tuned for Friday’s practice report.
