The Denver Broncos rallied from a 17-3 deficit to stun the Philadelphia Eagles on the road to improve to 3-2 on the season, upsetting the defending Super Bowl champions.
Bo Nix, Courtland Sutton stun Eagles in impressive rally, Broncos statement win arrives
The Denver Broncos offense looked abysmal for three quarters of play against Vic Fangio’s stout Eagles defense, but Bo Nix, J.K. Dobbins, Courtland Sutton, and Evan Engram dug them out of the mud for an impressive come-from-behind victory to score 18 unanswered in the second half.
Dobbins rattled off some big runs throughout the game before he ultimately punched it in for a touchdown in the fourth quarter that cut their deficit to 17-10.
Nix overcame a slow start where he was 10-of-21 in the first half for 79 yards, and finished the game 24-of-39 for 242 yards and a passing touchdown to Engram, who broke out late in the second half, which gave Denver the lead late, followed by a two-point conversion completion to Troy Franklin that gave them an 18-17 advantage.
Nix was 14-of-18 in the second half to help fuel the rally, including going 9-of-10 in the fourth quarter, with a late drive that saw them milk the clock, forcing Philadelphia to burn their timeouts before Wil Lutz booted in the eventual kick that gave them the 21-17 lead.
This was Denver’s statement game this year, and they overcame tons of adversity, including 12 penalties for 121 yards.
3-2 feels much better than 2-3.
Nik Bonitto continues to be a bright spot
Through five games, Nik Bonitto has seven total sacks on the year and is a firm candidate early on for NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
In Sunday’s game against the Eagles, he had 2.5 sacks, jumping into the league lead.
Denver’s franchise record is held by Von Miller, who had 18.5 sacks back in 2012. Just five games into the year, Bonitto is on an incredibly impressive pace, and luckily, the Broncos have him locked in for the long term.
He’s been one of the most consistent bright spots for Denver this season. In Sunday’s win,
