Having a development-focused roster will be important for the Denver Broncos as they prepare to endure a testing and financially strapped offseason. After the conclusion of the season, the Broncos signed a handful of players to futures contracts for next year.
Denver Broncos sign players to futures deals
Every year after each team’s NFL season officially ends, most organizations quickly sign some of their younger or developmentally focused players to futures contracts. The Broncos wasted no time doing that on Monday.
The team announced the signings of several players to deals that will bring them onto the roster for 2024.
- Quarterback Ben DiNucci
- Running back Tyler Badie
- Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett
- Defensive lineman Jordan Jackson
- Offensive tackle Demontrey Jacobs
- Safety Devon Key
- Linebacker Durell Nchami
- Outside linebacker Ronnie Perkins
- Offensive lineman Will Sherman
- Wide receiver David Sills V
- Defensive back Keidron Smith
- Cornerback Reese Taylor
Most of these players spent 2023 on the team’s practice squad. DiNucci, Badie, Jacobs, Jackson, Key, and Sherman were all on the Broncos roster during training camp and the NFL Preseason.
Perkins appeared in various regular season games for the Broncos. The Broncos saw enough in a handful of these players to bring them into 2024 as change plans to impact the team beginning in March from a roster and personnel standpoint.
Some players that fans should keep an eye on in particular are Key, Badie, Dorsett, Jacobs, and Sills V. Key was elevated to Denver’s gameday roster on Sunday against the Raiders and played snaps on special teams.
With Delarrin Turner-Yell not expected to be ready for the start of the season, Key is a player to watch in particular for his impact on special teams. He was highly regarded by Denver’s coaching staff this season for his contributions to the scout team.
The same applies to the other players mentioned. With the unknown ramifications of the Broncos’ anticipated departure from Russell Wilson, a lot of these players could find themselves as cost-effective options that could play quite a bit in 2024 if Denver can’t get out from the shadow of the financial impact.
