After injuries have impacted the first two years of his career, the Denver Broncos are excited to see Greg Dulcich return to practice this week as the team reports for their first practice of training camp on Wednesday.
Denver Broncos expect Greg Dulcich to return to practice this week
The Denver Broncos will be back on the field for the first time this morning since OTAs as they officially kick off training camp with two acclimation practices before Friday’s first open practice to the public. At some point, whether that’s today or later in the week, Broncos head coach Sean Payton expects Greg Dulcich to practice after offseason foot surgery sidelined him for the team’s offseason program.
Dulcich missed most of last year with a hamstring injury before making his return to the practice field over the course of the final three weeks of the season. In his first practice back he suffered a foot injury that lingered with swelling, leading him to get surgery on it during the offseason. He rehabbed at the team facility under the supervision of Beau Lowery, the Broncos VP of Player Health and Performance.
All roads lead to this training camp window for Dulcich as he looks to stay healthy after injuries have impacted his career early on. There’s no question regarding his talent and ability when he’s healthy, and Payton hopes he can remain healthy as the team tries to build the best 53-man roster possible.
“We expect the tight ends to be back, and we expect Greg to practice,” Payton said. “I don’t expect anyone to be on his piggyback or anything like that. I expect Lucas Krull to make progress like he has. We were encouraged with what he did [this offseason]. I think that position is important. These guys present different skillsets, some guys block better and other guys are better receivers. Hopefully, Greg can stay healthy, and we go from there.”
Dulcich will compete alongside veteran Adam Trautman, Nate Adkins, Thomas Yassmin, and Lucas Krull — a player who stood out drastically during OTAs and minicamp as a potential offensive weapon for Payton and the Broncos offense.
Practice begins around 10:00 a.m. MT and we’ll get our first look at Dulcich’s potential return to the field this morning.
