The Denver Broncos are navigating some injuries on the very back end of their cornerback depth, with Saturday’s preseason game approaching.
Denver Broncos waive DB Gregory Junior, sign Micah Abraham
The Denver Broncos made a roster move on Friday ahead of Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Denver signed defensive back Micah Abraham to the roster after waiving defensive back Gregory Junior.
Junior signed with the Broncos after last week’s preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers, after the team had placed defensive end Matt Henningsen on the waived/injured list.
He participated all week in practice before pulling up with a hamstring injury during Thursday’s joint practice against the Cardinals. The team placed him on the waived/injured list.
Abraham joins the Broncos secondary as a first-year player, having spent time with the Indianapolis Colts last year during training camp, and playing against Denver in last season’s preseason opener. He also spent time on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad.
More recently, Abraham played this past spring in the UFL as a member of the St. Louis Battlehawks, appearing in two regular-season games and one postseason game. He had five total tackles and one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery for 70 yards.
Right now, the Broncos’ cornerback room is dealing with an injury to Reese Taylor, who has missed practice all week with a hamstring injury. He also missed last week’s preseason game against the 49ers.
During Wednesday’s practice, CB Damarri Mathis left practice with a trainer, but he was back on the field and fully participated in Thursday’s joint practice.
