The Denver Broncos have been moving in different directions as Sean Payton continues to build out this team that’s best aligned with his vision. After various opportunities, the Broncos are moving on from tight end Greg Dulcich.

Denver Broncos waive Greg Dulcich

The Denver Broncos are moving on from Greg Dulcich after three seasons. Head coach Sean Payton came in last season and identified Dulcich as a potential ‘Joker’ for his offense, but hamstring injuries thwarted that vision from becoming a reality.

Dulcich came into training camp this offseason healthy and ready to go and looked impressive during camp, but that never formulated into something tangible in the offense to start the regular season. After appearing in the first four games of the season, Dulcich turned into a healthy scratch and has been inactive for eight straight games.

He still possesses a lot of talent to be a threat in the NFL, and perhaps he’ll get that opportunity in a new environment, but it was never coming together in Denver. Dulcich had been upended by Lucas Krull, Adam Trautman, and Nate Adkins involvement in the offense, with blocking being the biggest detractor as to why Dulcich lost playing time.

The former 2022 third-round pick will go through waivers where he may garner interest. There’s a possibility a team like the Browns, Chargers, or Colts could look into picking him up, especially since they are the next three opponents for the Broncos on the schedule.

For any team taking him on, it has the chance to be a low-risk, high-reward type of move for them because of his size, speed, and athleticism. He may fit in perfectly in a scheme where he doesn’t have to be a blocker on a consistent basis, even though that’s an area of his game he’s been working on.

Despite him being benched this season, Dulcich expressed disappointment in the team’s move, but he never changed his approach in practice. He continued to work hard and maintained the right attitude, and Monday’s move will allow him to find a new team this season.

With him being waived, the Broncos now have a spot open on the 53-man roster, which could be used for wide receiver Josh Reynolds or outside linebacker Drew Sanders, whose 21-day clocks are ticking closer. A decision on Sanders has to take place this Wednesday, while the decision on Reynolds has to come next Wednesday.
