The Denver Broncos have interest in adding to their cornerback room as the NFL Draft looms closer and closer. The Broncos will host a veteran cornerback for a free agency visit on Friday.
Denver Broncos set to host Levi Wallace on Friday
The Denver Broncos are interested in adding to their cornerback room ahead of next week’s NFL Draft. On Friday, the Broncos will host former veteran Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Levi Wallace.
Earlier in free agency, the Broncos had interest in former Tennessee Titans cornerback Kristian Fulton, who ended up signing with AFC West division rival Los Angeles Chargers. After their expressed interest was revealed, Denver sat on the veteran cornerback market.
Wallace is set to visit the team facility and Broncos brass on Friday as first reported by Bleacher/Report’s Jordan Schultz. He entered the league in 2018 as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Bills and would go on to start all 52 games he appeared in.
Wallace spent the past two seasons as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, which came in as one of the league’s top defensive units last season. However, according to Pro Football Reference, Wallace surrendered six total touchdowns last season and allowed 40 catches on 75 total targets last year.
As a member of the Steelers, he started in 18 of 31 total games, accumulating 84 tackles, 24 passes defensed, and six interceptions. This would be a low-risk, high-reward type of move for Sean Payton and the Broncos if they added him into the mix.
If he signs on Friday, the veteran cornerback will likely be added to the mix of a position battle with third-year player Damarri Mathis and second-year player Riley Moss for the starting job opposite of Patrick Surtain II. He would help elevate the overall level of competition and performance of the position group as they undergo 2024 with a new defensive backs coach in Jim Leonhard who is also the team’s passing game coordinator on defense.
Overall, in his career, he has 54 total passes defensed and 12 interceptions.
As it currently stands, the Broncos cornerback room features Surtain, Moss, Mathis, undrafted rookie free agent Art Green, veteran Tremon Smith, Reese Taylor, and Ja’Quan McMillian.
McMillian is viewed internally by the team as their potential long-term starting nickel, while the other spot opposite of Surtain will be up for grabs in training camp.
