Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims was named the AFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance on Sunday helped the team win their 10th-straight game.

Denver Broncos WR Marvin Mims named AFC Special Teams Player of The Week

Marvin Mims has always been one of the most dangerous returners in the NFL and his All-Pro nods as a returner in his first two seasons are proof of that. He’s heading towards a likely third after his performance on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he housed a 48-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Mims’ ability to recognize the holes in space against coverage units has always been a strength of his, and he took advantage of that in Sunday’s game.

For Mims, this is his third recognition as the AFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week in his career. His first came in 2023 in Week 10, his second in Week 15 of last year, and another one this year after Week 14. Mims’ three honors are the most by a Broncos returner in club history, and is tied for the third most overall behind Matt Prater and Jason Elam, who both earned the honor five times in their careers.

The Broncos have had four players win AFC Player of the Week honors this season alone. Kicker Wil Lutz won it in Week 11, Nik Bonitto took it home in Week 5, and Jonathon Cooper was named one in Week 6.

Going into Week 15, Mims leads the NFL in punt return yards with 394 yards on 24 returns, giving him an average of 16.4 yards per return, which ties his career high set in his rookie season.

His skillset is valuable for special teams, and Sean Payton and the Broncos offense have expressed how important it is to find him more touches on offense.

Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers is a great place to start.
