The Texans’ defense will need to be on point as they play an explosive offense in a hostile environment. Houstons’ defense is below average, allowing over 24 points per game, which ranks 19th in the league.
The Texans are coming off an overtime victory versus the Buffalo Bills on Wild Card weekend, where their defense played exceptionally well and received a boost from the return of edge rusher J.J. Watt.
Coming off as 12 win season, the Chiefs earned a first-round bye that provided them ample time to prepare for Sunday’s contest. Key contributors Travis Kelce and Chris Jones are both dealing with lingering lower-body injuries they have been nursing for some time. They’re both expected to play but are listed as questionable.
Texans starting wide receiver Will Fuller, missed last week’s wild-card game with an injury, and Kenny Stills is now listed on the injury report with a knee injury. He is also questionable to play.
Houston and Kansas City met earlier this season with Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson out-dueling Patrick Mahomes in overtime. Watson was excellent in that game, completing 30 of 42 passes for 280-yards and a touchdown. Watson also was effective using his legs, rushing for 42-yards and two touchdowns.
The Chiefs’ defense has been playing great football since Week 11, allowing 11.2 points per game, which is the best mark in the NFL.
Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid has a career regular-season record of 130-93-1 but has a postseason record of just 10-9.
Reid led the Philadelphia Eagles to his first Super Bowl appearance in 2004, but ultimately lost and has yet to return to the big game. Reid and the Chiefs were bounced in the AFC Championship game last season.
The over/under for the game is set at 51 with 53% of public money shuffling towards the over, per the Action Network.
