Broncos wide recievers Emmanuel Sanders and Isaiah McKenzie will miss at least the Week 7 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Sanders and McKenzie both sustained sprained ankles during the 23-10 loss to the Giants Sunday night. Head coach Vance Joseph ruled both players out against the Chargers, first in a radio interview, then with the gathered media.
“They’re both going to be out this week, first of all. After this week, they’ll be week-to-week,” Joseph said.
Sanders’ injury came during the third quarter, when an awkward collision with Giants safety Landon Collins caused his ankle to roll. Sanders was helped off the field by team trainers and was carted to the locker room shortly thereafter.
McKenzie, who is also the team’s punt return specialist, was injured shortly after when he landed awkwardly after jumping for a pass. He also left the game on a cart.
Backup cornerback Brandon Langley could fill in for McKenzie in the punt return game. Wide receiver Jordan Taylor filled in for Sanders after the injury, and may be expected to continue filling the role moving into week seven against the Chargers.
Quarterback Trevor Siemian also sustained a shoulder injury, but is not expected to miss any time. Demaryius Thomas has a lower leg bruise, but will not miss time.
At right tackle, Menelik Watson will be week-to-week with a right calf strain. His backup Sunday, Billy Turner, suffered a broken hand and will be out this week against the Chargers. Donald Stephenson, who was inactive for the game Sunday, will likely be activated against Los Angeles.
