The Denver Broncos on Thursday took steps to shore up their offensive line, signing veteran and former-Broncos tackle Tyler Polumbus. The Falcons released Polumbus on Tuesday due to an over-abundance of linemen and a shortage of tight ends.
Denver, meanwhile, has a serious dearth of healthy offensive linemen. After the first practice of the week saw three of the five starters out or limited in practice, news on Thursday wasn’t much better.
As a result, Polumbus saw his first action in a Broncos uniform since he was waived by the team in 2010, and could see time on Sunday against Minnesota if Sambrailo cannot go and head coach Gary Kubiak doesn’t have full faith in Michael Schofield. The second-year player who was selected in the third round in 2014 has yet to see NFL game action.
Denver has managed to scratch out victories in Weeks 1 through 3, despite sub-par play from the offensive line. But this many injuries doesn’t bode well against a Vikings pass rush that appears ready to break out and an overall defense that has averaged just 20 points against.
