The Colorado Buffaloes (3-1, 0-1) were supposed to be one of the nation’s top offenses, yet five weeks into the season they aren’t even close to the top of Pac-12 Conference. 11th in scoring offense and total offense, the Buffs have not shown the polish that many expected to see of an experience-laden group.
The Buffs fell to the (#6/#6) Washington Huskies (4-0, 1-0) in the rematch of the 2016 Pac-12 Championship game to open conference play last Saturday, 37-10. While it was nearly the same result as the last time these teams played, there was a much different path to get there. Redshirt-senior WR Bryce Bobo says the Buffs were humbled by their first loss of the season but feels that progress is still being made.
As the Buffs gear up to play the UCLA Bruins (2-2, 0-1) on Saturday night, Bobo wants to see his young quarterback build upon what he’s shown. Despite throwing three interceptions against the Huskies, Bobo said that he felt redshirt-sophomore QB Steven Montez had the best game of anyone of the offensive side. It seems as though Montez’s ’never say die’ attitude is earning the respect of his teammates.
On an individual level, Bobo’s senior season is off to a solid start. He has 23 catches for 230 yards and two touchdowns through four games. He became the 16th player in Colorado history to go over 100 career receptions, doing so in the Texas State win. He also went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career in that game, becoming the 28th Buff to eclipse that mark in his career.
