Last week, it was announced that Colorado Buffaloes assistant football coach had submitted his resignation, effective Jan 31. On the same day he officially became unemployed, he was charged with several counts of assault.
On Tuesday, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Broomfield, Colo. announced that Tumpkin has been charged with five counts of felony second-degree assault and three counts of misdemeanor second-degree assault.
In the charges, Tumpkin is alleged to have abused his ex-girlfriend on several occasions between Feb. 2015 and Nov. 2016. He is alleged to have used a deadly weapon, to have strangled her and to have caused her bodily harm.
Upon learning that Tumpkin’s ex had been granted a restraining order, CU suspended the assistant. Upon learning that he would likely be charged, they asked for his resignation.
