The Colorado Rockies have activated outfielder Gerardo Parra from the disabled list, the team announced Sunday morning.
“Physically, he’s doing really well,” manager Walt Weiss said. “We wanted him to get in the neighborhood of 30 at-bats [during his minor-league rehab stint], and he was approaching that. So we felt like the timing was right.”
Right now, the Rockies have a good problem on their hands. They have four everyday outfielders, but only enough slots to play three.
“I’m not sure how it’s going to work out,” Weiss said. “I’ve got four really good outfielders, and they are all major-league quality outfielders. I’ve got to keep them all involved. You’ve got versatility there. We can play matchups, those kinds of things. I can’t look into the future and say exactly how it’s going to go … Parra’s a big part of this moving forward, as are the other three guys. It’s a nice issue to have.”
It seems like, injury barring, Carlos Gonzalez and Charlie Blackmon will consistantly get starts in center and right field, meaning Parra and the sizzling David Dahl will have to battle for the third and final outfield slot.
Dahl has started his Major League career by getting a hit in each of his first twelve games, hitting .380 in that span.
Parra, 29, is hitting .263 through 63 games played this season.
