Prior to the 2017 campaign, free-agent guard Ron Leary left the Cowboys for the Broncos, hoping to bring his experience from the dominant Dallas line, and apply it to a Denver line that was still searching for an identity.
In an interview with Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7, Leary discussed his first season with the Broncos, one that ended prematurely due to injury.
“I don’t think anyone would’ve imagined [the season] ending like this,” Leary said. “But that’s just how football goes sometimes. It’s just one of those seasons; one of those issues that can’t be fixed in a [single] season. We’ve got to go out there after the season and try to re-evaluate everything; move on from it and get better.”
Leary’s aware that, in the NFL, about a third of every roster changes over from season to season, but notes that even though he knows it’s coming, it never feels normal. “Yeah, it’s hard to believe, but I’ve been in the league six years now, so I’ve seen it happen. We’ve had losing seasons before, and a lot of guys you don’t expect to be cut are released or traded. That happens; it’s one of those things — you hate it — but it just sort of comes with the business.”
