The Colorado Avalanche’s struggles continued in San Jose on several levels Saturday night as the club dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime. Colorado picked up a point to raise their league-low total to 28, but dropped their fifth consecutive game. It was also Colorado’s 14th loss in 15 trips to the Shark Tank.
Colorado has now strung together three consecutive five-game losing streaks separated by lone wins. The first streak came Dec. 14 – 22, which they ended with an OT win in Chicago. They followed that with five losses from Dec. 27 – Jan. 4. An OT win at home over the Islanders snapped that skid. Their loss Saturday night extended their latest losing streak, which began Jan. 12, to five.
Mikhail Grigorenko and Francois Beauchemin each scored for Colorado and Spencer Martin made 27 saves in his first NHL start in the loss. David Schlemko scored the game-winner for San Jose in overtime.
The Avs return to Colorado to host San Jose on Monday. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
