It was a career night for running back Phillip Lindsay and quarterback Sefo Liufau looked like he is finally fully healthy as the Colorado Buffaloes defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 40-16 in Boulder Saturday night.
Lindsay ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns as the Buffs pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back. Liufau scored the go-ahead touchdown, a three-yard run with 9:11 remaining in the second quarter. Lindsay’s first of the night came on Colorado’s very next drive and put the Buffs up by 13. Kyle Evans opened the scoring for Colorado. The most impressive play of the night was a 75-yard touchdown run by Lindsay on the first play of the second half.
Any hope of a Sun Devils comeback was dashed with that play, along with Colorado’s stifling defense. The Buffs held ASU to 299 total yards and just three-of-18 on third-down conversions. The Buffs sacked Manny Wilkins five times on the night.
The Buffs amassed 315 yards on the ground, although Liufau was equally as impressive through the air, going 23-of-31 for 265 yards.
The win keeps Colorado in a tie with Utah for first place in the Pac-12 South. The Buffs travel to Stanford, who just eked out a 17-10 win over Notre Dame, next week.
