With the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline on the horizon, we have been taking a look at the history of the Colorado Rockies most impactful trades.
In 2015, superstar shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was moved along with reliever LaTroy Hawkins to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for pitchers Jeff Hoffman, Miguel Castro, and Jesus Tinoco and shortstop Jose Reyes.
He was one of the single most talented players the franchise has ever seen and the end of his tenure in Colorado has become a symbolic encapsulation of where the team has been for the last decade.
If getting Carlos Gonzalez for Matt Holliday was the best the team could do in a star trade, this may well have been the worst.
It was a trade that didn’t work out for anyone involved and ultimately limited an era where the Rockies ended up making back-to-back postseasons anyway. But how much better could that time have been if even one single element of this transaction had worked out in Colorado’s favor?
