The Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball team sent its seniors out in style Sunday with an 80-76 victory over the UCLA Bruins. It was the final home game for seniors Dominique Collier, George King, Tory Miller-Stewart and Josh Repine.
Collier led the way with a season-high 19 points, which also represented his career high at Coors Events Center in Boulder. King added 16 points, including the final two CU points of the game, coming via free throws after he picked the pocket of UCLA’s Aaron Holiday.
Miller-Stewart and Repine did not register on the stat sheet in the game.
“Today’s a special day,” CU head coach Tad Boyle said postgame. “We have four really special seniors that we wanted to send out on the right note, on a high note, and we did that. Our players played with great passion and pride and toughness and energy, and I know they did it for those four guys.”
“It was an emotional game, especially in the beginning,” King said. “But when tipoff started, all that was behind me and it was about winning the game. Leaving Coors in your last game with a loss when you’re a senior would have been really tough to swallow.”
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Buffs and improved Colorado to 16-13 overall (8-9 in Pac-12 play) while the Bruins dropped to 19-10 (10-7). The win also gave Colorado its first-ever two-game season sweep of the Bruins.
The Buffaloes end the regular season on March 3 in Utah. Pac-12 Tournament play begins Mach 7 in Las Vegas. Colorado is currently eighth in the Pac-12 standings.
