The Denver Broncos will be without starting center Lloyd Cushenberry for the next four weeks as the team placed him on injured reserve. What are the team’s plans to replace him while he’s injured?
Lloyd Cushenberry set to miss time for Denver Broncos
The Broncos left London two weeks ago with a much-needed victory, but they lost another starter on the offensive line. Lloyd Cushenberry suffered a groin injury in the second quarter of play against the Jacksonville Jaguars and did not return.
The Broncos starting center will be out of action for at least the next four weeks after the team placed him on injured reserve on Tuesday. Throughout the first half of the season, the Broncos’ offensive line has dealt with a multitude of injuries to various starters, forcing the line to be without solidified chemistry.
Denver lost starting left tackle Garett Bolles to a season-ending leg injury against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5. Against the New York Jets several weeks ago, the Broncos lost offensive tackle Cam Fleming who filled in at left tackle in his place.
Against the Jaguars, Calvin Anderson stepped up at right tackle and Graham Glasgow filled in for Cushenberry at the center position. Going forward, Glasgow will be the primary option with Cushenberry missing time, and rookie center Luke Wattenberg will receive practice reps according to Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett.
“We’ll train both of them, but I think Graham [Glasgow] really did a nice job,” Hackett said earlier this week. “He stepped in. I give Graham [Glasgow] so much credit this whole season. [Going] all the way [back] to that first game in Seattle, he had to jump in and play guard. He’s played guard, now he’s played center. He’s been all over the place, and he hasn’t skipped a beat. It’d be good to get him going at center.”
Broncos news and notes
Two weeks ago, the Broncos placed safety Caden Sterns on injured reserve as he works to recover from a hip injury that’s impacted him since training camp. On Tuesday, the Broncos elevated veteran safety Anthony Harris to the 53-man roster to help fill out the team’s depth at safety with Justin Simmons, Kareem Jackson, P.J. Locke, and Delarrin Turner-Yell.
The Broncos will be back at practice on Wednesday at the UCHealth Training Center as they prepare for Sunday’s matchup on the road against the Tennessee Titans.
