Throughout his entire career, Martin Truex Jr.’s best finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has been 11th place (2007 and 2012). Last year he finished 24th. Heading into the weekend, he’s sitting in 11th place. So, point being, this could be a breakthrough season for Truex and Furniture Row Racing.
Mile High Sports motorsports expert Kurt Hansen says it’s a race worth watching, and that Furniture Row is sitting on a golden opportunity. But it’s not a slam dunk.
“They have to step up their game,” Hansen said in a phone interview. “They’re showing some inconsistency, and that creeps in at this point of the season. They’ve had some really good runs and some not so good runs. They’ve got to tighten up the pit stops and tighten up their game.”
Hansen continued with an anology that most any Denver sports fan can appreciate.
“You know what?” he posed. “Furniture Row has been like Peyton Manning. They’re capable of the big game and hitting the 61-yard touchdown bomb that winds up on the highlight shows. But they’re also capable of missing the four-yard button hook by 10 yards. There’s good Peyton and bad Peyton. That’s a little bit how they’ve been lately.
“But I’ll tell you, they’ve got a fast car. If they step up their game, they’ve got a great driver and a car that’s fast enough to get it done.”
Tune in Sunday, as we shall see.
