Coming into the game the question facing CU was whether they could keep their hot play in the Pac-12 going against Oregon State after taking down Oregon last week. The second question was just how good is Steven Montez, who continued to fill in for Sefo Liufau.
Well, across the board it was a success, as it only took Montez three quarters to throw for 293 yards and three touchdowns on 19-27 passing, as he led the Buffs to a 47-6 win over Oregon State.
He may be the “backup” quarterback, but Montez is playing like a star, and his teammates are taking notice..
“Him staying level headed, especially after last week’s game, I think he broke two records, and I told him don’t get complacent, and he didn’t do that,” Shay Fields said following the tame. “He came and balled out today, and just his poise and energy that he brings to the team is what impresses me most.”
Oregon State got off to a good start on defense, as they forced CU into a quick three and out, but Fields knew they had a few more tricks up their sleeve.
“After the first drive we seen some things we could take advantage of,” Fields said.
And Fields and the Buffs offense backed it up, as he was the beneficiary of three Montez touchdowns, finishing with seven catches for 169 yards, a new career high.
Steven Montez and Shay Fields had a great game, something they hope to keep going as they face off against a team that Colorado has never beat in USC next week.

Shay Fields is the 4th player in CU history with three receiving touchdowns in the same game.
CU’s win today was the largest conference win the program has had since 1992.It’s also the first time CU has won back-to-back conference games since they joined the Pac-12.
